Collaboration · HAUS Interiors × Space Ceiling
Where the ceiling becomes
the feature.
Two Calgary projects, one design-build approach: a gloss-black stretch ceiling and a starlit kids room, built with our partner Space Ceiling.
How we met
A relationship that started with curiosity.
Michael Anderson of HAUS Interiors and Aivaras Mulskis, owner of Space Ceiling, met a few years ago. Michael wanted to understand what Space Ceiling's systems could do inside a project, not only what a stretch ceiling is. Conversations about specialty ceiling systems, perimeter lighting, fibre optic star ceilings and reflective finishes led to joint projects, and to the way the two teams now plan a ceiling with the designer, the contractor and the electrician from the start.
Project one
A white star ceiling for a kids room.
At the Eau Claire Residence, HAUS Interiors was the builder and general contractor, with interior design by Louis Duncan-He Designs. The brief for the child's bedroom was calm and bright by day, and magical at night. Space Ceiling installed a white stretch ceiling with fibre optic stars and perimeter lighting around the edge. With the stars off it reads as a clean white ceiling. With them on, the room feels like a night sky, and the indirect perimeter light gives a soft glow for bedtime.
Project two
Springbank Luxury Basement.
This basement started unfinished. HAUS Interiors designed and built it as a family room, media wall, home office and dry bar. Basements often come with lower ceilings, so the answer was a high-gloss black stretch ceiling from Space Ceiling. The surface acts almost like a mirror: it reflects the lighting and the room below, which adds depth instead of closing the space in. The install took about two days. Compare the 3D design with the finished space on our Before and After page.
About Space Ceiling
Specialty ceilings, planned early.
Space Ceiling is a Calgary company specializing in stretch ceilings, integrated perimeter lighting, fibre optic star ceilings and reflective finishes, treated as architectural elements rather than decoration. We bring them in early because lighting, speakers, sprinklers and vents all sit in or behind the membrane, so the electrician, the contractor and the installer need to coordinate before drywall decisions are final.
